From signup
to first report.
A six-step path through WorkingLit for new publishers — account setup, configuration, products, sales, royalties and reporting.
Create your account
Sign up for a free account at WorkingLit.com. After logging in, you'll land on a dashboard that shows your business health metrics — it'll fill in as you add titles, sales and expenses.
Configure your settings
Use the Settings area to change your password, upgrade your plan, or invite colleagues. Customize the things that vary by press:
- Currency
- Customer classes
- Expense categories
- Order statuses
- Royalty methods
- Payment terms and shipping types
- Sales personnel
Add your products
Upload your entire catalog or add titles individually using the ONIX-formatted product form. A second tab covers marketing materials, cover images and BISAC codes. Add multiple formats — paperback, eBook, hardcover — under one product, and the system will track inventory automatically as sales and returns come in.
Track sales
The Orders section logs all income through book sales. First add customers (with your customizable classes — distributors, vendors, direct), then create orders with discounts, payment terms and shipment status tracking.
Manage creators & royalties
The Creators section manages contributors. Add them in bulk or individually. Pick the royalty structure that fits each contract — list price (based on cover price), net receipts, net profits, or profit-sharing — and set regional terms when royalty arrangements vary by geography.
Log expenses & pull reports
Link expenses to specific products or categories so they flow into your numbers. The Reporting section gives you profit-and-loss statements, product-specific analysis and a top-revenue view — all exportable to CSV or PDF when you need to share.
